Frequently Asked Questions
What is checked during a roadworthy certificate inspection?
A roadworthy inspection covers critical safety items like brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, windscreen, body structure, seatbelts and emissions. The goal is to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate on public roads. It doesn’t assess mechanical condition beyond safety, and it’s not a full diagnostic or pre-purchase inspection.
How long does a roadworthy certificate last in Queensland?
In Queensland, a roadworthy certificate (or safety certificate) is valid for 2,000 kilometres or 2 months—whichever comes first—for private vehicle sellers. For dealers, it’s valid for 1,000 kilometres or 3 months. After that, a new inspection is required if the vehicle hasn’t been transferred or registered.
Can I sell my car without a roadworthy certificate?
In Queensland, most used vehicles must have a valid roadworthy certificate before being offered for sale, transferred or registered. This applies to cars, motorbikes, trailers and light trucks. Selling without one can lead to fines, registration delays and liability issues. Some exemptions apply, such as sales to licensed dealers or between family members.
WHAT WE provide
Compliance, Safety & Peace of Mind
A roadworthy certificate isn’t just a formality—it’s a legal requirement that protects drivers, passengers and other road users. That’s why we take the inspection process seriously. We examine every key safety component, from the body and chassis through to seatbelts, windscreen condition, oil leaks and exhaust emissions.
Our inspections follow Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads guidelines, and we provide clear paperwork once your vehicle meets all the standards. If repairs are needed, we can carry them out in-house to save you time and hassle.
Whether it’s a heavy vehicle, everyday commuter or taxi, we’re licensed to inspect and certify a wide range of vehicles. Our goal is to keep you compliant and confident behind the wheel.
